Building & Pest Checklist
1. Remove all timber debris from under and around the house. Firewood should be kept in a dry, well ventilated location away from your house.
2. Old decayed tree stumps should be removed to below ground level.
3. Remove all gardens and vegetation growing close to, on or against house walls.
4. Check for cracks to roof tiles and replace where required
5. Adjust and lubricate sliding doors and windows, making sure they close and lock properly.
6. Check sealants and grouts to all “wet areas” including the shower recess and kitchen sink. These areas should be water proof to prevent damage.
7. Treat or paint exposed timbers (including decks, floor joists and tops of open pergolas).
8. Avoid having timber posts, stairs, cladding etc in direct contact with the ground. There should be a 75mm clearance to meet council regulation
and to prevent termites.
9. Keep weep holes in brickwork clear. Decks, concrete slabs and surrounding topsoil should be at least 10mm (1 brick) below the weep hole.
10. If you have had a termite management system installed, it is recommended that you check if it is due for renewal or an annual pest inspection.
11. Check all fences, retaining walls and landscaped timbers for decay. Replace if necessary.
