Moving Check List
Don’t you just hate feeling like you forgot to do something? When it comes time to move, that is the last thing you want to be
worrying about!
To help with the moving process, we have created a check list to keep you on track leading up to and after moving day.
Most points noted are for once you have sold, however some can be organised prior.
General Points

Start researching removal companies, and book your move date (please note, your property will need to be vacant when settlement occurs)

Make travel arrangements for your pets

Collect or order packing boxes – some removal companies will offer boxes as part of their package
-
Create a moving file to keep and track important documents (eg quotes & receipts)

Arrange to have school records transferred

Arrange to have vet records transferred
-
Arrange to have your medical records transferred

Begin sorting through your belongings. Separate items into those you will keep, donate or discard

Begin packing items you don’t use often

Label boxes with the room its destined for

File a change of address with the postal service or ask them to hold your mail at the post office.

The week of moving
-
Plan meals for the last week to use up your food

Assemble a folder of important information about your house for the next owner (see Property Folder)

Notify friends and family of new address & phone number
-
Fill any prescriptions you will need during the move

Pack an essentials box to keep with you (including medication, snacks, water) this should accompany your moving file

Empty and defrost your fridge and freezer at least 24 hours prior to moving
Moving Day:

Place carpet, floor and door frame protectors throughout your home
-
Check every room and closet one last time to make sure nothing has been left behind

Check the roof or ceiling void, as items are sometimes stored here
-
Plan dinner (pizza always works well)

Clean the house ready for the new owners – sometimes professional cleaners will be a better option and reduce stress on the day

Be sure to deliver a set of keys to your property agent – any remaining keys should be left in the top draw in the kitchen
Moving in checklist
